Not Taking the Chance

“I don’t know why you are wearing that thing. The ads are bogus. Those masks do nothing to keep out the transformation virus,” John told his friend Katie.

“I haven’t caught it yet! And I don’t intend to catch it anytime soon.”

“About 90% of the world has caught it by this point. Scientists have said most of the risk has passed. I’ve caught it. I didn’t mind my transformation.”

“Yeah, you changed from a guy to a girl. I’ve heard much worse stories. Besides, I like being a girl! If I caught the same strain as you had, what if I switched genders? I don’t want to be a guy!”

“Being a guy was not so bad.”

“Would you go back?”

“No.”

“Then I think I’ve made my point.”

“I’m just saying the mask doesn’t do any good. You’ve been out all the time and haven’t caught it yet. Maybe you’re just one of the few who are immune.”

“I’m NOT taking that chance!”

Tell It To Me Straight

Originally posted on May 10, 2010.

"Tell it to me straight, Doc," John said, "Is that fancy medicine of yours going to turn me back into a man again? Ever since this damned transformation virus changed me into a woman, I've just not been happy. I know that treatment there is experimental, but I sure hope it can turn me back into a man."

Mutation

“You’re saying that...I used to be a guy? Shouldn’t I remember that? I’ve heard about the Transformation Virus, but aren’t people usually aware when their bodies change?” Jung asked.

“That’s precisely why we’re so concerned here,” Dr. Park replied, “We suspect it’s some sort of mutation. But, let me ask, if you’ve always been a woman, do you remember anything that might be specific to the female experience? Perhaps describe your prom dress? Or what your first period was like? Or even when your last period was?”

Jung sat silent for several minutes. There was no way she could remember any of it, because none of it had ever happened. She had been a man up until a few days ago; she just couldn’t remember it. She did remember her life, but her body seemed like a fuzzy memory in it. She figured it was better this way. Even if she was probably going to be studied extensively due to the mutation of the virus inside of her, at least she didn’t feel like there was anything wrong with her body. It all felt so weirdly normal.

Reverse Zombie

Originally posted on October 31, 2019.

The virus first starting infecting people around September. People would seemingly die and come back to life craving the flesh of other humans. Dr. Gustavo Diaz hated the term “zombie,” but that’s what everyone was calling the infected. Many had been working on a cure, but Gustavo was taking a different approach, he theorized a vaccine.

With an infected young woman on the table in his lab, he extracted her DNA and began the study it. She growled and snapped at him, but she was tied down tight. He was able to create a single dose of the vaccine, and he wondered who to test it on. However, his choices were quickly dwindled once he realized his lab was surrounded by infected people. There was only one person he could test it on: himself.

Nervously, he injected the needle in his arm. He began to wonder how he would know it would work? Then something strange happened as his body transformed. He looked eerily similar to the woman on his table -- well, like she did when she was alive. But being a woman was the last thing on his mind. Gustavo also had a craving for flesh, but he desired to eat the flesh of the infected. He couldn’t help himself as he bit into the woman at his table.

He was shocked at what he had done. He briefly thought he had turned himself into the same type of monster as the infected, but he still seemed to have his ability to speak and think. He had no cravings for the flesh of the living for sure. Then he looked out his lab window to see the infected desperate to get inside. He knew he was a different kind of monster entirely, and he was one that was ready to feast on the flesh of those zombies...

Worthless

Originally posted on January 21, 2014.

Ever since the Transformation Virus started spreading, people rarely left their homes for fear of being infected. Telecommuting became the norm and roads, bus stations, and airports were often vacant. As the virus spread, many workers soon realized they couldn’t be infected twice and some people returned to work. On the other hand, some thought they could beat the virus. Ed had invested a lot in the latest technologies that claimed to block the virus. Every time he went out on the street, he always wore a mask. It had worked fairly well, and he started to go out longer and longer in preparation for a business trip to Tokyo. He felt sick in the cab on the way to his private jet, but he shrugged it off. However, by the time he landed, it was obvious the Transformation Virus had finally gotten him. He was no longer the man he once was -- he was now a rather skinny and attractive Asian woman. Considering some reports of people’s changes, he didn’t think his was bad at all. In fact, he was already planning ways he could leverage it the upcoming meeting. His head was so engrossing in planning, that he didn’t even remember to take off his mask. Now that he was infected, it was completely worthless!
